NOTD 119 – Featured Color Friday – Marilyn

So I am a big fan of the show SMASH on NBC and it’s about a Broadway show about Marilyn Monroe. Naturally, just looking at this beauty, plus my love for Marilyn herself, and this show, as soon as I saw this gorgeous color, I just had to have it. Today I bring you, “Shimmer’s – Marilyn”

‘Marilyn’ is a pinkish/red toned jelly based polish but more on the red side, with gorgeous red glitters. It looks fine on its own, over red, or black, or I even tried silver, but ended up with the red. I put two coats of ‘Marilyn’ over one thin coat of “China Glaze – Adventure Red-y”

And now, for my new tattoo

IMG_2396

So here is a side story on this…. My husband and I have been married 9 years now and we had discussed getting tattoos with our names on them. I was going to get Jack and Sally and put our names, and he Superman and Louis Lane. So we go to the tattoo shop, all ready to go, so I show the guy the picture I wanted. Problem is, unfortunately not all pictures transfer well over to tattoos. The drawing had too many thin lines and would have just blended over time and you would lose the details, specifically in the clothing and in their stitches. So we nixed that and went to lunch to think on it. He wasn’t 100% sure on his picture just yet either so we decided to just get the names for now and come back when we had good pics we knew we wanted for sure. I picked a Nightmare Before Christmas-ish text and got Don on my wrist and Don drew the heart on me and the guy tatted it in. Don had me sign my signature on his chest and the guy tatted that in.

Here they both are:

Here is the picture I wanted (with some changes) but he said that in order for it not to bleed into each other over time it had to be BIG, so it’s off to find a better Jack and Sally for my next tattoo 🙂

NOTD 112 – Love Mani

Today I have a mushy love mani for you. Some people are anti-Valentine’s Day, some people get overly mushy, and some people are just in the middle. I am more in the middle, I have been married for 9 years now and Valentine’s Day is special don’t get me wrong, but as cheesy as it may sound, every day is Valentine’s Day. Okay, maybe not every day, but we try to make life special every day, our relationship special every day, so I am more of an in the middle kind of gal when it comes to the actual Valentine’s Day. We went out to dinner and a movie last week, (Not going ON the day, too crazy, and we figured that this weekend would also be insane). We saw Warm Bodies and went to a Hibachi Steak and Seafood grill, which was delish!

I call this a mushy mani as I took out every love, heart, rose, etc. stamp that I had for todays nails. lol 🙂

I started out by painting three coats of “e.l.f. – pearl pink” This is a very light and subtle shimmery, pearly pink.

My thumb, I used Stamp OB-M I dotted two of the roses with “Zoya – Suri” and the last one with “China Glaze – Adventure Red-y” and the stems and leaves I dotted with “Ulta – Envy”. I also took two hearts from stamp “SE-20” off of the xoxo stamp to add to the side of the roses.

IMG_2305

My ring finger, I used the stamp “SE-21” I put a dot of “Suri” in the middle and outlined it with “Adventure Red-y”

For my pinky I used the same stamp from “OB-M” I finished off all of the roses with a little glitter “Milani – art of silver”, I don’t know if you have ever seen the glitter dusted roses, that is what I was going for.

IMG_2308

I used the hearts stamp from “SE-21” on my pointer finger and where I placed it wasn’t center so the bottom part of my nail was exposed and looked odd… I re-stamped some more of the hearts from the same stamp in the red. The reflection spots in the stamp, I accentuated with the glitter.

I then used the ‘xoxo’ stamp from “SE-20” and put the xoxo in the red and the hearts in the purple. Once done, I then added two more hearts from same stamp in the red.

Here is the final look.

The other hand, I got lazy and it was getting late last night.. lol so I used the same base, but alternated the red and the purple on every other finger, using stamp “OB-M” the heart, again accented with the glitter.

So what do you have plans this Valentine’s day?

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Fah who for-aze! Dah who dor-aze! Welcome Christmas, Come this way!

Hey guys! Here we are at week three. For those of you that do not know, I know that I posted on Facebook and sent some emails out… I came in 2nd place for week one!!! woohoo I cannot believe it. I didn’t win anything, but it was still cool to know that I came in second in my first nail art challenge ever. The voting for the second week (“A Christmas Story” – theme gifts) ends the end of the day Wednesday December 5th so be sure to get your votes in!(link at bottom of page)

This weeks theme is, “Trim the tree, Holiday decorations” I chose How the Grinch stole Christmas. see below for inspiration pics and polishes used etc. Voting for week 3 ends Wednesday, Dec 12th, click here to vote please!! I came in 2nd on the first week and 4th on the second week.

I did the Whoville tree with them singing around the tree on my thumb and pointer finger, inspired by this picture:

grinch-tree-11

Here is my nail art inspired by the picture, I drew the top of the tree with the star on my index finger into my thumb which was the bottom, some snow and some of the who’s around the tree holding hands

Next was Cindy Lou Who

Lastly, on my ring and pinky I drew this, on the very left of the picture you have the fireplace and the grinch shoving it up the tree, I drew his back at the top of the tree as he is bending over shoving it up fireplace. I drew his hat as he is bent over, his feets under the tree on pinky and one hand gripping it on the ring finger. I already had so much detail and its very hard, (not being a real artist) drawing so small on fingernails with nail polish!

NOTD 88 – Interlocking Red Dotticure

Nicole over at  Polish Me, Please has been doing these adorable Interlocking Dotticures and I decided to do one. 😀 I did a half-moon, interlocking dotticure. My first attempt, on my left hand the dots were too small and I didn’t think it looked right, so for this mani you get to see my right hand.. lol usually my left hand is my ‘model hand’.

The colors I used were “Essie – No Place Like Chrome” and “China Glaze – Adventure Red-y”

So what do you think of this look have you tried it yet?

HMOTD 3 – Werewolves

For this mani, I did werewolf eyes and bloody fangs, and attempted some fur texture.

Colors used were (L-R) “Spoiled by Wet N’ Wild – Designated Driver”, “Avon – Mink Vision”, “China Glaze – Adventure Red-y”, “e.l.f – medium brown”, “Milani – white”, “China Glaze – Liquid Leather”, “Nailtek base coat”, “Seche Vite top coat”

To create this look, after base coat, I did two coats of “Avon Mink Vision” on all nails but middle finger, which was two coats of “Liquid Leather”. On the brown based nails I took a few style brushes and dipped it in the white and the medium brown and just did different brush strokes to make the appearance of fur. The middle finger, I hand painted his mouth using  the white and the blood was the “Adventure Red-y”. My pointer and ring fingers, I made the base of the eye with “Liquid Leather” then made the center with “Designated Driver” and the black overtop again. All fingers topped with Seche Vite.

This last picture was with a flame overlay thought it made it look kind of cool

So what do you think of my werewolf nails?
