The Lacquer Ring – Inspired by Frosso

This month as you saw in our color inspiration post, we are doing nails inspired by Frosso. She is a very dear friend of ours who is behind the now retired blog Lacquer Me Silly. As sad as we are to see her retire, I’m sure you will see her pop up on Instagram from time to time 😉

How can one choose just ONE look of Frosso’s to be inspired by, I love all of her nails. With Halloween being this week, I decided to do one of her Halloween looks… since Lesley took the look I wanted. LOL Just kidding! She did an amazing job! All of the girls did!

I chose Frosso’s Halloween splatter. This is her look:  She transferred her files to wordpress so you can check out the full article here.

rscn6259

For this look I painted two coats of OPI’s Can’t Afjord not to. I splattered China Glaze’s Liquid Leather, Ulta’s Snow White, Sinful Colors Happy Ending, and Opi’s Do you have this color in Stock-holm. Not only can this look be messy but depending on your approach it can use a lot of polish so be careful.

I have only done one splatter, and had forgotten just how messy it can be.. wow LOL

IMG_1903

The good thing is that I thought to use OPI’s Glitter off on my fingers so it minimized clean up a lot… however the way I held my hand when I did it, I didn’t think to glitter off my hands too… SMH

This is how it came out though, and I must say I absolutely love it!

So there you have it. This is my inspired by Fross Halloween splatter. What do you think?

Stamping Saturdays – Leopard Lover

It’s Saturday again! Today I am going to a craft show with my mom to see my cousin who makes these amazing hand painted glasses. Then I am going out with my girlfriend to lunch and then to pick up my OPI’s waiting for me at my polish store, the green, silver, and black from the OPI Coca Cola collection! 🙂

Today I have a special gift from my girl V, Essence’s Me and my Lover. I stamped Essie’s Good as Gold overtop using my 80’s MoYou stamp and then painted China Glaze’s Liquid Leather in the spots.

IMG_6643

I only have one picture because I don’t really like it… this is the look I was going for sure but I am not sure I love the colors all together

Don’t forget to check out the other girls looks for Stamping Saturday!

The Lacquer Ring – Cherry Blossoms

We are back for our first Nail art group post from the Lacquer Ring. As we said before, Nicole from Polish Me, Please was in charge of picking our color this month which was orange and our nail art group post which is Cherry Blossoms. I already texted Nicole last night cursing her because I was so frustrated and hating how my Blossoms were coming out. Damn you Nicole! lol

When I think of Cherry Blossoms I think of Pink. I did some research and found some other colors. I decided to go with the white variety.

3340127436_2edf092f31_z

My sister is in town for a few weeks to visit!! She was over the other night so I had her help me pick a base color for my Cherry Blossoms. She came up with two coats of Darling Diva’s Dangerous Driver. My branches I used a brush and mixed drops of Urban Decay’s Gunmetal and one of China Glazes’s Liquid Leather. For my blossoms, I dotted them on using Ulta’s Snow White. The Center I mixed Sinful Colors Happy Ending and Jessica’s Banana Peel. For the pollen, I lightly brushed the yellow again and tipped it with China Glaze Liquid Leather.

So these aren’t exactly as I’d hoped they turn out, but I ended up liking them. It was fun to see what all of the girls came up with. See theirs for yourself below!

Stamping Saturdays – Dandelion

Today is Armed Forces Day and my local supermarket honored our local Veterans and my husband was one of them! They had a list of the Veterans and they picked 5 and he was chosen. It was such a nice day, they had a little ceremony, they gave all of the Veterans flowers, a fruit basket, a bank gift card, a letter from the Governor, and a Certificate.  They had a little lunch buffet and presented everyone with their certificates of appreciation. I was so happy that Don got picked and that we were all able to be a part of it.

collageIMG_1319IMG_1312

Unfortunately, my pinky nail is still hella short but at least its not bloody anymore 😦 My backyard is covered in dandelions! Ava runs through the field with her mouth open and just attacks them, she absolutely loves it! In honor of this gorgeous day I did two coats of OPI’s No Room for the blues, and I stamped Ulta’s Snow White and Red Angels RA-318. The stamp is more of a flower with leaves on the stem so I just used the top part of it and didn’t use the leaves. I then painted the stem using China Glaze’s Liquid Leather as the stem because I didn’t like the way green looked over the blue.

For my Frosty nail I used Ulta Snow White, Barry M – Gray for his hat, China Glaze – Liquid Leather for the rim of his hat, and Loreal – Captivating Crimson for his nose. NOTD 168 – Lacey

Hey guys! So last night we had our Annual Halloween party, at our house, with our family. Don was Superman with Tempest as his Wonder Woman  sidekick and then I was Bat Girl with Blizzard as Robin, my sidekick! We had such a blast and the dogs were so good!

Well on to my nails for today, this is two coats of ‘China Glaze – Liquid Leather’ and on my index and pinky finger is two coats of ‘Avon – Cosmic’. I then took these black lace stickers that I got from the Born Pretty Store.

These nail art stickers were sent to me to review for my unbiased review

dsc

These stickers are super easy to use and a good price, they are $5.23 There are a couple of different other designs beyond these. They basically just get applied to dry polish and cut to fit, I then applied top coat and voila!

Well guys, I am back. My life has been extremely hectic the last few months as you might have seen in my last post, but so long as things continue to slowly, slow down I will be posting more often again! 🙂

This Saturday we are having some family members over for a Halloween Party so this week I have been running around with last-minute preparations and cleaning. In my last post you saw my first Halloween nails and today I have two more for you.

This first look /polish was a gift from my amazing friend Amy over at The Fancy Side, it was my first Cirque ever! I give you ‘Cirque – Sanguine’ I stamped some leafs overtop using ‘Sally Hansen – Forbidden Fudge’

Picture 113Picture 110

These are my Halloween nails. I got this awesome Hello Kitty stamping plate a while back and it has so many cute Hello Kittys. I first painted my nails using ‘China Glaze – Liquid Leather’ then stamped Jason/Hello Kitty using ‘Ulta – Snow White’, yes that is right, Hello Kitty in Jason garb, see for yourself!

NOTD 99 – Featured Color ‘Black Friday’

Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to the first edition of Featured Color Friday. Each Friday I will feature a color that I have yet to on the blog. Then new links will be added to my “Current Polish collection” page until all are filled.

These were my New Years Day nails. I painted one coat of “China Glaze – Liquid Leather” and topped with two coats of “Lush Lacquer – Black Friday” and “Seche Vite”

I absolutely love the colors and shapes and the design, and everything about the polish. It however is a glitter topper that you have to maneuver and manipulate on your nails so it lays where you want it to sometimes. ( if you are OCD like me) 😀

IMG_2146IMG_2147IMG_2154

Still trying to get the lighting just right with my new light box, but I definitely see some improvements. Sorry about the blurriness around some nails, I had minor black polish marks before clean up that I tried to blur out. I wanted to take the pictures last night before Seche shrinked the look, and of course I did all that, and it didn’t shrink… 😦 I should be happy I know but I sat there and edited all the pictures. now I am using them hahaha

So what do you think of this polish and my new pictures?

A Christmas Story – Bunny Suit

The second weeks challenge was “gifts”.

The first thing gift giving makes me think of is those horrible gifts you would occasionally get as a kid (Bad Christmas sweaters etc.), which reminded me of one of my favorite holiday movies “A Christmas Story” and the terrible christmas gift that Ralphie got from his Aunt Clara, the infamous “Bunny Suit”. So I ran with it and decided to go with a ‘Christmas Story’ theme for my nails, including some of the gifts therein.

I first painted two coats of “Sally Hansen – Platinum Frost” on all of my nails, then the inspiration for each nail is as follows:

Thumb: Christmas tree to put presents under in their living room on Christmas day, Painted by hand with a brush using “Urban Decay – Mars” then did some random sized Christmas balls using “Barry M – Red” and “Milani – white”

Pointer: Ralphie’s stocking where Santa leaves him stocking stuffers, using “Barry M – Red” and “Milani – white” I painted the stocking with a brush and used a toothpick and “China Glaze – liquid leather” to write Ralph.

Middle: Ralphie in his bunny suit was all hand painted with a tiny brush using “Julep – Kelly” for his face, “Milani – white” eyes, toothpicked “China Glaze – Liquid leather” and made it look like his eyes were rolling, mouth and nose using “Sally Hansen – Ruby Sequin”. The bunny suit was painted using “OPI – Think in Pink” for the light pink part of the suit, and the under the ears the brighter pink is the Ruby Sequin. I then painted his hair using “OPI – DS Classic”, and his glasses using “Sally Hansen – Forbidden Fugde”

Ring: Red Ryder BB Gun, painted with a tiny brush “China Glaze – liquid leather” and “Revlon – Stone” I then with the same brush wrote out Red Ryder using “Barry M – Red”

Pinky: Ralphie’s dad had won a Leg lamp which was his gift, I used “Julep – Kelly” for the leg shape, and “China Glaze – liquid leather” for the shoe and the fringe on the lamp shade. I then lastly manipulated my “KandNails CK-02” fish net stamp to just go over the leg with liquid leather.

Without further adieu, here is the look!

HMOTD 9 – Jack and Sally

Happy Halloween everyone!

I’m back! We are safe, thankfully Hurricane Sandy didn’t do too much damage to my area. My work however does not have power so we have been off since Monday. Tomorrow even with no power we are being asked to go in and they have the back up generators, so this should be fun!.. In any event I am disappointed that I didn’t get to do as many Halloween Mani’s as I originally anticipated. Our Halloween party was Saturday just before the storm (pics to come) so I didn’t do my nails all week, I was cleaning and preparing. So finally with having some time off I tried to catch up on about a week and a halfs worth of TV and blogs lol, and today finally got around to my nails ( Due to all of the cleaning, please ignore my nubs, they got destroyed this last week.) 😦

I saved The Nightmare Before Christmas nails for last. I used “China Glaze – Liquid Leather” and white striping tape for Jack’s suit nails, and for Sally’s dress nails, “e.l.f. – pink purple”, “China Glaze – liquid leather” “OPI – Fly”, ” Spoiled Wt N’ Wild – Don’t Be Cheesy”

So what do you think of my final Halloween nails? If you are dressing up, what costume did you choose this year?

HMOTD 7 – Skull-tastic

Today was an exhausting day! whew! I got up and left the house by 8 to go to this, basically all day craft show. They have all kinds of crafts, baked goods, etc. Just lots of neat stuff, I usually get some people Christmas presents there. Anyway, I got home around 4, then we went out for drinks and apps for my mom, she is getting married Friday. so needless to say I am very tired so this will be quick! LOL

This was the stamp that I used with “China Glaze – Liquid Leather” I used pieces of the stamp and once on the stamper I wiped off what I didnt want to use and just used the skull heads and the crossbones. For this look I ddn’t want it to be girly since it’s Halloween.

The other two polishes used were “OPI – Did it on em’ ” and then “Sinful Colors – Call ya later” as the gradiant coat.

So what do you think of Skull-tastic ?

HMOTD 6 – Bitten, A Bloody Manicure @JulepMaven

I have always been fascinated/obsessed (call it what you will) 😀 with all things Vampire for as long as I can remember. I very much enjoy “True Blood”, “The Vampire Diaries”, “Twilight”,  etc. but my interest really dates before those. Naturally I had to incorporate Vampires somehow into a Halloween Mani of the Day eventually.

Since I had just done fangs for my Werewolf nails, I wanted to do something different. I googled for some inspiration. All that came up were: blood drips, fangs, or grayish/purple Dracula type vampires. I noticed nothing featured an actual vampire bite, so I became inspired…

I bring you “Bitten”, Bloody Nails!

I made puncture wounds from a vampire’s bite, with the blood dripping down to create a messy pile on the tip that doubles as a french manicure effect!

Polishes used to create this look were: “Julep – Kelly” for base on all nails, 2 coats, a mix of “e.l.f. medium red and dark red” to create the blood, and “China Glaze – Liquid Leather” for the puncture wounds. Tools used were: dotting tool, sponge, and paper plate.

Here’s how I did it:

  • Step 1: Base Coat
  • Step 2: Two coats of “Julep – Kelly”
  • Step 3: Pour a couple of drops of your red on a paper plate, then with your sponge, dab tip or corner in the red and create a sponged circle on all nails
  • Step 4: Pour a drop of the black on your paper plate, or chosen palette, and with your dotting tool create dots in center of sponged circle to create wound
  • Step 5: with your dotting tool re-dip back into the red and create blood drips from wound holes and then on tips. *Remember messy and uneven is good, its blood!
  • Step 6: Top coat (I used Seche Vite)

HMOTD 4 – Witch booties

Today is the fourth Halloween Mani of the Day and it’s witches feets 😀 I used “Ulta – Celebutante” on all nails, topped all but ring finger with “Sinful Colors – Call ya later”. The ring finger accent nail art was done with “China Glaze – Liquid leather”, “OPI – Did it on em'” and “Milani – white”

The second picture of my other hand is kind of blurry but it unfortunately was the best shot I got of that hand… lol plus it’s pretty with the shining of the light on the glitter 🙂

So what do you think of my with booties mani? What do you currently have on your nails?

HMOTD 3 – Werewolves

For this mani, I did werewolf eyes and bloody fangs, and attempted some fur texture.

Colors used were (L-R) “Spoiled by Wet N’ Wild – Designated Driver”, “Avon – Mink Vision”, “China Glaze – Adventure Red-y”, “e.l.f – medium brown”, “Milani – white”, “China Glaze – Liquid Leather”, “Nailtek base coat”, “Seche Vite top coat”

To create this look, after base coat, I did two coats of “Avon Mink Vision” on all nails but middle finger, which was two coats of “Liquid Leather”. On the brown based nails I took a few style brushes and dipped it in the white and the medium brown and just did different brush strokes to make the appearance of fur. The middle finger, I hand painted his mouth using  the white and the blood was the “Adventure Red-y”. My pointer and ring fingers, I made the base of the eye with “Liquid Leather” then made the center with “Designated Driver” and the black overtop again. All fingers topped with Seche Vite.

This last picture was with a flame overlay thought it made it look kind of cool

So what do you think of my werewolf nails?

HMOTD 2 – Jack-O-Lantern

Some of you may be sad to not see actual Jack O’ Lanterns today, but for my fellow glitter lovers, you will be excited 😀 and who knows..  maybe some Punkin’ faces are soon to come 😀

I painted two coats of “China Glaze – Liquid Leather” let dry for a very long time then put my binder stickers in place. I painted one coat of “Essie – Penny Talk” (that is really all you need) and let it dry a little, then one coat of “Hit Polish – Jack-O-Lantern”. The first nail I did, the copper dried so quickly, as most of the metallics do, that it started to peel the polish off while I pulled the sticker, off even with me being gentle. Ugh~! The next nails I had to paint the copper first, immediately take off the sticker, and by hand paint the glitter on top and be sure to not go over the black 😦 Still wasn’t too bad. I love the pop of metallic under the glitter and overtop of the shiny black.

Here is the look 😀

Some of the glitter flakes are a little larger so you really can see it well in the other pictures, but I took two other pictures of it up close still:

So what do you think of this gorgeous glitter?

**Stay tuned later today I have an amazing wreath to show you that my bestest friend Gina made for me, Hint: it’s Halloween Town themed 😀

HMOTD – 1 Spiderwebs

OCTOBER IS HERE!! woohoo! Today is the first day of October, there are 30 days to Halloween, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month( I will be wearing my pink ribbon pin every day and pink every friday!), it’s Pumpkin Spice coffee time. ❤

Today is the first edition of the Halloween Mani’s of the Day (HMOTD) (I will try to do every 2-3 days sometimes sooner depending on my schedule) 😀 This is “Liquid Leather by China Glaze” topped with one coat of “Sinful Colors – Call you later” I used “Essie – No place like chrome” for the spiderweb stamp and then added a black gem to represent a spider 😀

So I like this mani much better, I wasn’t sure about putting black on so soon, I mean I know it’s fall just felt like it’s not really color out yet, I feel that black is a deep fall winter color. I usually don’t mind too much with that, If I feel like wearing the color, I will but something just felt weird about putting on black, are you guys like that with some colors, or am I just crazy?! lol Anyway I really liked how the green sparkle kind of made the black appear as a deep green sparkle color. I have said it before and I will say it again, I absolutely love the “Essie Chrome collection” as stamping polishes! No doubt.

*Side note rant* I cannot find the e.l.f. Disney Villians collection! It says Limited Edition Walgreen’s only collection, guess what, I did a search on eyeslipsface.com and none of my Walgreen’s in my state are selling it! Poo!!

NOTD 73 – “Why so Igneous”

Today is Cynthia’s Birthday so make sure you stop by and wish her a Happy Birthday! For todays NOTD, I have a GORGEOUS topper called “Why So Igneous by Hare Polish” I first saw this swatched on Tara’s blog and just had to have it! This is a gorgeous very jelly purple with green and purple flakes. I love how toppers look so different over every color. I ended up with it over “Essie – No Place like Chrome” I cannot wait to put it over black or orange for Halloween.

While we are on the subject, with October approaching very quickly now is the time to announce that I will be doing Halloween manis all month. Halloween is my absolute favorite time of the year, I am obsessed with “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and just about anything Tim Burton for that matter, so it only seems fitting that I do a whole month of  Halloween manis!

Anyway back to the polish and how awesome it looks over different polishes, here are a few examples:

It looks gorgeous over every color, but I love it the most over the silver, it makes the silver look like a metallic purple under the topper, and simply fabulous over the black, those two are my favorite!

Since I am holding off on Halloween manis, I ended up with 2 coats of “Hare – Why So Igneous” overtop  2 coats of “Essie – No place like chrome” but here are two shots of it with one coat first.

Here is the final look with the two coats over two coats.

NOTD 58 – Stamp and Frame!

Stamping and Framing in the same mani? Yep you  heard me right. I tried both whole nail stamping and I took a stab at the framing mani. I used two coats of “OPI – Pompeii Purple” and then did the full stamp with “China Glaze – Liquid Leather” then the framing in the same color. I thought that the pink would pop through the black a little more than it did, but you can still see the shimmer and shine of the pink through it just not as much as I would have liked. Ah well, another learning experience.. maybe I am just being too critical of myself, plus I am hating how short they are, but I don’t really love this mani; but hey first full stamping and framing, I didn’t do too bad, just need some more practice 🙂
