The Lacquer Ring – Green

It’s TLR time again, Nicole’s up this month with her choice and she chose Green, very fitting for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day!

I intended this to be much different than it turned out.. it’s not terrible or a fail just not the look I was going for. :/  I did Cirque’s Erda and topped it with ILNP’s Flakies (whattttt? again!! i know) Supernova.

So Supernova has Blue, Green, and Purple flakies. On my swatch stick, yes I swatch each color.. It looked mostly green with a little bit of purple. So before I move on let me explain about my swatches because there seems to be some buzz in some of the groups I’m in on FB. Anyway… I have these swatch plates below, and every time I get a new color, before it goes away I paint it and put the name of the polish. All of my polishes are sorted by color, not by shade, lol just all greens together, etc. I also put how many coats it took to get that so that I know if it took 3 coats, it’s not a good stamping polish. Some people think this is a waste, some people think that you can just look at the bottle.. but Erda is a perfect example of why that doesn’t work… For me Erda looks much darker in the bottle. Now I know by looking at my swatches… Just sayin 😉 lol

Nail-polish-font-b-swatches-b-font-display-boards-chuck-nail-polish-color-card-display-panelAnyway back to the mani.. so on the swatch plate Supernova looked more green on it’s on, I guess paired with the green it took on the other colors, which is fine just not what I’d hoped for is all.

IMG_7388So in this angle you see mostly the purple flakes, but at the tips and in the middle of my pinky, and the left side of my index you can really see the green, it’s more subtle because the green matches Erda, but that’s more of what I was looking for here. Either way I think it came out good, It’s just not as St. Patty’s Day as I wanted.

Here’s some more angles

IMG_7384See it’s a more even mixed of both the green and the purple on this one.

IMG_7383Same with this, more even mixture.

So what do you think, are you sick of me doing flakies yet? I just can’t help myself! AND she just came out with holo ones, I am trying very hard to not give in… lol

What’s your favorite green polish?

Here are the other girls green manis

The Lacquer Ring – Purple

So I had a post all planned out, I was going to paint my nails using this gorgeous holo glitter that Lesley gave me and no such luck.. So I was going to paint my nails last night with it, I know last minute.. serves me right. Well all of the sudden we had noticed that the floor in our Laundry Room was wet and my washer had been leaking. We moved the middle ‘agitator’ and the drum had water under it.. what the pluck. So we have been having a lot of issues with it and it’s capacity so this morning we bought a new washer dryer set because our dryer has been going as well. In any event I forgot to do my damn nails so I am cycling an old post that I never posted that’s why I have a leaf stamped.. lol

This Month Cynthia is back up from Of Life and Lacquer and first up for color she chose purple. This is Figgy Pudding by Smitten Polish. This was part of their Christmas/Winter Collection and was seriously my favorite Holiday Collection and this my favorite color of all of the collections I got. Believe me, I got quite a few collections around that time. lol

Smitten’s website describes this Jem as a purple jelly base filled with subtly shifting reddish bronze flakies and shimmer. With that I decided to use Essie’s Penny Talk to stamp a leaf as an accent on one of my nails I figured it would really make the flakes pop and I think that’s true.  Although with or without this stamp the flakes pop and are gorgeous on their own too.

IMG_2462IMG_2460IMG_2458Isn’t it amazing! This is one of those colors that has bumped it’s way to my top faves. 🙂

Don’t forget to check out the other gals in their TLR Thursday this Month!

The Lacquer Ring – Teal

It’s finally Thursday! This week feels like it has just drug on so badly. Perhaps it’s partly from me working through lunch the last few days being completely and utterly beyond swamped. 😦 Just because it’s Thursday that doesn’t mean that the swamp-ness has gotten better just that it’s almost over and time for a break 😉

With that being said, I had totally forgotten that today was our bi-weekly post and almost wasn’t able to participate. I decided that I would at least do a quick 4 finger mani because I couldn’t be late again 😦 lol  This month is Amy’s pick and for her color she chose Teal.

I have so many teals to choose from however one sticks out as my favorite and was a quick dry, so win-win.  I painted one coat of OPI’s Fly just to have some undies and then one thick coat of Shimmer’s Strength. This teal beauty can either be worn with undies or on it’s own. Stand alone takes about 2-3 coats or just a few thick ones to become opaque. With the undies this was just one coat of Strength.

So what do you think Super glittery right, how can you go wrong!

What’s your favorite teal, or perhaps if not a teal what is your favorite go-to color?

The Lacquer Ring – Vampy

A new month is here which means a new set of prompts! It was Frosso’s turn however she recently announced her retirement for blogging. As sad as it is to see a founding member of #TLR and #StampingSaturday retire, we all can understand that sometimes life gets in the way of blogging and we have to make a choice. Have no fear though, I think she might pop in from time to time on Instagram, so make sure you follow her!

The first collab is Vampy colors because as we all know Fross loves her Vampy colors and her grays 🙂

I chose Zoya’s Blair. To me, this is the perfect amount of vampi-ness. Zoya’s site says: “best described as a blackened red wine with a satiny smooth metallic shimmer. This cool-toned, vampy shade has a undeniably mesmerizing depth!” I just now read the description and find it funny that it called it a Vampy shade too! See. lol I absolutely love this color!

This is two coats and I honestly might have even been able to get away with a thicker one coat.

The Lacquer Ring – Supernatural

We’re back this time with Sib’s pick of a Supernatural theme which includes Mythological creatures such as mermaids, dragons, etc.  As soon as she said Supernatural she reminded me of the ones I did way back when during the Nail Challenge that I absolutely loved, so I brought those back too 🙂

thca3uic78img_0663img_0662

For today, I chose dragon scales. I used OPI’s Green on the Runway as the base. It’s got a gorgeous like green to brownish almost color changing to it which was perfect. Then I stamped the scales using a mixture of Cirque’s Erda and OPI’s OPI with a nice Fin-nish.

I tried to capture the color changing as best as I could.

IMG_7097 IMG_7096 IMG_7095

So there you have it. That’s my Supernatural look. What do you think of when you think of Supernatural or Mythological?

Stamping Saturday – Bejewled Tiger

I absolutely love this MoYou stamp, I am using it again. I used it a few weeks ago when The Lacquer Ring brought you our first collab post and I did my orange nails . This is two coats of Cirque’s Bejeweled which I absolutely LOVE and I stamped China Glaze’s Liquid Leather with the stamp overtop. I love how the holo shows through it.

NOTD 120 – Featured Color Friday – Evanora nails

Happy Friday! So last Sunday we went to go see ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ and I could not help but notice Rachel Weisz’ nails. She plays Evanora, The Wicked Witch of the East and might I say is the most stunning Evil Witch I have ever seen. The make up and costumes in the whole movie were just amazing. I loved Rachel Weisz’ character make up, dress, and jewelry as well as Michelle Williams’. Mila Kunis who played Theodora, as well had gorgeous make up that is until she turned into the green Wicked Witch of the West. Maybe I was being too critical but the green make up job was terrible. Although she was green, her skin was so smooth and flawless, not something I would expect from the Wicked Witch… Just my opinion.

In any event, after seeing all the gorgeous make up, costumes, and nails of course I had to do this look. I did Evanora nails with a St. Patrick’s day flare.

Rachel-Weisz-as-Evanora-oz-the-great-and-powerful

For the base I used two coats of “Sally Hansen – Platinum Frost” This is a slower drying color so rather than painting seche for it to dry so I could use tape, I painted this on Tuesday night so that it would be fully dry for the tape on Wednesday night. I usually do my nails for ‘FCF’ Thursday’s but I have my Ladies Aux meeting this Thursday so I did them earlier in the week… anyway. The next step was scotch tape to make the triangle, and I painted one coat of “China Glaze – Liquid Leather” Once dry, I took a very thin, fine brush and used “Sinful Colors – Call You later” as the green glitter to make it more St. Patty’s Day themed. Once all of that was dry, I finally then used my stamp with the shamrocks and used “OPI – Just Spotted a Lizard” for the stamps.

Sorry I don’t have as many pictures as normal, was hard to capture the pearliness of the white, and some of my stamps have sheet marks because I have been trying not to use Seche due to shrinking. 😦 Anyway, I still absolutely love this mani! I love the shape and the colors, it’s such a fun mani. Definitely not as fun as my, every nail different St. Patty’s Day mani last year, but still fun, I think! 🙂

So what do you think?

NOTD 94 – Dog Day Dream

Good Morning everyone! Monday is over, woot woot, only a few more days until Friday… lol no, too soon? Alright well onto the polish then!

I got this gorgeous polish from Tara, for my birthday! It’s “Dog Day Dream by HARE” and its Gorgeous!! oh wait I said that already… well it is!!! It’s a gorgeous pink with purple, red and pink glitter. Three light coats made this jelly a beautiful pinkish wine color, of course hard to capture! For an accent, I used two coats of “Sally Hansen – Plum-It”

NOTD 86 – Gettin’ Cheeky

I know, I know, it’s been a while again.. 😦 well I have gotten some fabulous things in the past few days to tell you about!! My mama went to Amazon and ordered me the new Cheeky plate set, that came in the other day… I picked up the Color Club Pop Color set at Ross for $7.99!!! and My glequins came in from Ebay, woohoo!

This mani started out disastrous, it was one of those manis like, “why do I keep adding things” but I ended up liking it! 😀 I used “OPI – Russian Navy” which is a gorgeous deep blue, with I think, hints of a deep purple.Wwith this color, I feel like you need two coats but when you do two coats it looks super dark and not as much depth to it. I then used “Essie’s – Blue Rhapsody” as my stamping color which I think brings out a lot more of “Russian Navy’s” vibrance. The place I used was Cheeky plate “CH52” with my blue glequins that matched “Blue Rhapsody” almost perfectly!

Step 1: Base Coat

Step 2: Two coats of “Russian Navy”

Step 3: Once FULLY dry, Stamp Cheeky Plate CH52 onto all nails.

Step 4: Paint a diagonal french effect with either a brush or the brush from the polish bottle of Russian Navy (one nail)

Step 5: While Russian Navy is still somewhat dry, using a brush,(toothpick, whatever you want to grab with) dip into clear polish and pick up glequin. Place desired amount of glequins, in desired pattern; I followed the diagonal tip.

Step 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 for remainder of nails

Step 7: Top coat.

Here is the finished look

So what do you think?

HMOTD 5 – Hallowed Croc

I don’t really think that crocodiles are very Halloween, I think that if I came across one in real life I would be scared! lol but this mani was really inspired by Halloween colors and me determined to master this pain in the ass croc crackle!

For this look, I used 1C “Essie – No Place like chrome” as underwear, 1C “Color Club – Lava Lamp” and 1C of “Barry M – Black Croc Crackle” This crackle is a little different from the regular, for one when it crackles it looks like crocodile skin, for another your nails have to be dry to the tough kind of tacky, they can’t be completely dry like regular crackle. For me, and maybe I am doing it wrong but I was having such a hard time, the crackle wasn’t drying right, didn’t look right, etc then Seche Vite when it dried mushed the colors together.. ugh! So I finally gave it another go today with these colors for a Halloween look. I used an “OPI” top coat and once it was dry, Seche Vite for extra protection and the colors didn’t bleed this time.

So I know that most of you are over the crackle-ness but what do you think of this one and this Halloween Mani of the day? 😀

Nail Files: Bare All Tag NOTD 48

Lindz from girlintheglasses, came up with a Bare All Tag. Check out her original post and mine below. Many of us love our pretty polished fingers, me included, but what about the natural nails that lurk beneath the enamel?  They just don’t get much attention unless we’re prepping them for yet another coat of a lovely lacquer of our choice.  I feel it’s time to strip the polish and bare all in a show of solidarity ladies!  At least long enough to snap a photo and answer a few questions, I’m not a monster after all.  So please join me, show your naturally beautiful nails and share some information about them and the products you prefer to pamper them with.”  Take part in the Bare All Tag if you would like to, everyone has been tagged, so go for it 🙂
