TLR – Man nails

This month, we did back-to-back TLR’s with the holiday next week. Last week as you already know was ‘Cream’ color.  This prompt is ‘man nails’, done by or inspired by.

I tried very hard to get Don to do my nails… yea that didn’t work.. lol.  I had him instead come up with nail colors and inspiration.

Don’s original choice was he wanted ‘hooker red’ so he chose Nubar’s Lustful Red. Okay color down, then he looked through all of my stamps and came up with the splatters from my MoYou stamp. He wanted me to use black so I did Illamasqua’s Boosh. He said the colors and the stamp reminded him of when the Venom Symbiote took over Spider-man

Here are the inspired by my man nails..

Independence Day water marbles!!

Happy 4th!

So I attempted water marbling again. This time it was no less messy! LOL My sister who is literally good at everything she tries even the first time is just perfection… well she found a tutorial on Pinterest and sent this to me last week. Once I told her how much of a mess and how uncoordinated I felt doing this last time, she proceeds to tell me, oh it’s easy. Ha.. well…. I tried it again last night and although the tutorial was very helpful and it did work I am still uncoordinated and very clumsy so I still made a mess!

The first step which is very important to water marbling is to make sure that your water is room temperature. When I tried this before I just used tap water ‘at room temperature’ this time per the tutorials suggestion, I used a water bottle that had been sitting out. This tip definitely made a difference.

I had all of my bottles ready to go and open, but part of my first issue and frustration is the blue and white I wanted to use, are almost empty! 😦 so this definitely made it difficult and things didn’t run as smoothly as I wanted.

I taped my fingers up once the white base had dried just as the tutorial had suggested, and started with the next steps of dripping the polish one by one until was a bullseye. Once I had the desired amount of drips and design I put my nail in. Another trick is to wiggle your pin or toothpick on the top of the water to tell once it’s dry. Once it has dried you can scrape it off the top so that once you slowly remove your nail from the water you can’t mess up the design by getting any of the residual at the top of the water on to your nail.

Once I had completed all of the steps and looked at my nails.. the red that I chose overtop my white base was too pink, it wasn’t red enough with just one coat so I was not happy. In the tutorial she had mentioned that some people do double marbles… well now I am intrigued… so I took the same three colors, and added in a shimmery red. I also put a few drops of red before moving on to the next color to brighten it a bit, once I double marbled, it came out darker and more like Red white and blue. It’s a little more abstract and there is a lot of detail going on. I had my girlfriend Gina bring in her Macro camera and lens in to work to help me take better pictures. LOL

Here is my final look

IMG_6622

I used Nubar’s Lustful Red, Essie’s Aruba Blue, Ulta’s Snow White, and Avon’s Super Nova.

IMG_6623

For the stamp nail I did two coats of Ulta’s Snow White, and used my MoYou stamp. I dropped the blue on one firework, overlapped it a bit with lustful red on the other firework, and on the third overlapped the two with Super Nova. Once I scraped it, I used the excess on my scraper and went over it a couple of more times to blend the colors more and voila!

Here is the link to Polish and Pearls, the tutorial that I followed. It can also be found on my Pinterest board.

IMG_6627

All in all, it came out a lot better than I had hoped, I still have some perfecting to do but it ran more smoothly than it did the last time I tried this.. if you can believe that based on what I explained LOL

So what do you think, will you try water marbling for the first time, or maybe again using this tutorial? What are your plans this weekend? Hopefully not getting stormed in like us here on the East Coast!

The Lacquer Ring – Tribal

As promised, we are back this time with my pick for the nail art theme and I chose Tribal. I had done tribal nails a few years ago when I first started my blog and did those free hand with all kinds of crazy fun colors so this time I went for a little less bold more simplistic.

Here are my nails when I did the 31 day nail art challenge

collageI went with Ulta’s Concrete Evidence as my base and stamped my MoYou plate on top using Sinful Colors Black and I accented some dots using Nubar’s Lustful Red.

IMG_3405IMG_3404

You will notice I have nubs again!!! 😦 My nails were just getting long and I slammed my finger pointing straight toward the wall… (yea don’t ask, I’m clumsy) and my ring finger broke! I hate different lengths so I had to trim them all. Once they start to grow back though I think I am going to stick with the rounded look for now. 🙂

Well there you have it, here is my Tribal look, what did you think? Don’t forget to check out the other #TLR girls for their take on tribal.

For the light colors, I used Sinful Colors – Happy Ending, Nubar – Lustful Red, Spoiled by Wet N’ Wild – Designated Driver, Ruffian – Foxhunt, and Nina Ultra Pro – Cobalt. The bow was painted using Lustful Red and finally, I painted the glare on the lights using Milani Nail Art Silver glitter, and the middle of the bow.

NOTD 157 – Holo Madness

Hey guys! Guess what day it is today… HUMP day!

I have some pretty crazy Holo madness today. Born Pretty sent me this holo beauty to play around with and share for you 🙂

*This polish was sent to me for unbiased review.

The holo polish itself was kind of sheer and I personally don’t like the natural nail line look. I used three coats of this beauty ‘Born Pretty – Holo Glitter #1’ and that worked out pretty well. I then stamped some cherries and that square design using ‘Pueen16’ stamp and ‘Nubar – Lustful red’ on all of the nails except my pinky I then did one more coat of the holo on top for an extra special pop effect. On my pinky finger I did two coats of ‘Lustful red’ along with two coats of the holo on top.

Picture 113Picture 114Picture 111

This polish was very easy to work with, I love holos and this one was no exception. The only thing I wished was that it wasn’t so sheer, BUT at the same time I don’t have any sheer holos like this so it’s a fun topper to add to any color!

Along with sending me this polish to try, The Born Pretty store gave me a coupon to share exclusively with Mae’s Beauty followers. The coupon is good for 10% off and free shipping. Click the link below to be brought to their store; Remember to use the exclusive coupon code of ‘ZYL91’ in the checkout for your special discount. (It’s also on the side bar of the blog)

NOTD 155 – Cindy

Happy Monday! NOT Mondays have to be the worst day of the week really.. The only good thing about this week is that I am off Wed-Friday this week, bad on that though it’s because my husband is getting his tonsils out!! EEK! They say that is one of the worst things/pains you can experience as an adult so needless to say he is not looking forward to it, neither am I 😦

I have one of the other ‘Shimmer’ girls to introduce to you today, her name is Cindy and she is STUNNING!

*This polish was sent to me for unbiased review.

First, my inspiration for this mani was Alice in Wonderland. This is one of my all time favorite Disney movies. I really wanted to show you guys Cindy next, and I had just gotten this new rose stamp and it hit me, I can paint them white (‘Ulta – Snow White’) and it will be like when they have to paint all of the roses red because they accidentally planted white instead. 🙂

Alright, now on to the beauty. ‘Cindy’ reminds me a bit of ‘Marilyn’, ‘Marilyn’ is a deeper gorgeous red and ‘Cindy’ is a little brighter red glitter.

Picture 112

‘Cindy’ on it’s own is suspended in a somewhat clear, red base. I applied two coats of ‘Cindy’ over ‘Nubar – Lustful Red’

I know I talked a little bit about how Shimmer polishes came to be, but I think that it’s just so awesome that all polishes are named after family and friends that she draws inspiration from.

And most importantly, where you can buy these pretties, on the Etsy website

Alright, well that’s it for me today, I hope to be back Wednesday for one of the other ladies and then of course ‘Featured Color Friday’ but we shall see…
