OMG nail strips | Mae's Beauty

It really is true that when it rains it pours! As most of you know my husband got his tonsils out just last week and his first day back to work was Yesterday. Well the Friday that he had his surgery, my one dog, Tempest ran across the backyard and basically blew her knee. The Vet suggested an Orthapedic surgeon if in about a week she was still the same and that there was a possibility that it could heal on its own. Unfortunately when she applies any pressure to the knee it pops very badly so we did not wait and sought out the surgeon right away. We met with the Surgeon last night who confirmed just by seeing how she walks and holds up her leg, and how her bone is sitting and is disjointed that her ACL is completely torn and possibly her meniscus (the cartilage in between her knee bones). The only good thing about all of this is that she also completely ripped her nerve so luckily she is not in any pain. Unfortunately with large dogs such as herself it will not heal on its own the type of injury that this is… so she has to get surgery to repair and then physical therapy after, just like people. 😦 So first my husband now my poor pupper. My other dog Blizzard strained his knee in a very similar fashion in the beginning of the year but it wasn’t a complete tear so he wasn’t as bad off and his healed for the most part on its own. When it rains and such he still limps a little and wont put full pressure on it, but Tempest’s is completely torn!! 😦

Well on that note… 😦 I will move on to the nail strips that I have to show you today… I was contacted by William from the OMG Nail Strips Company to review the strips for you guys. I chose the Peacock design.

Below are the application instructions from the website:

Soak your hands in warm water for 5 minutes. Dry hands, then gently push back cuticles. Carefully remove any excess skin around the nail bed.
Moisturize your hands with lotion, and wait 1 minute.
Using a Q-tip, remove any leftover lotion from the nail bed, paying special attention to the sidewalls, cuticle area and tip of the fingernail.
Select the appropriate sized nail strip for each nail to ensure the nail will be covered from sidewall to sidewall. Using a nail strip that is too large for a particular nail is not recommended; rather, trim the strip the scissors to the appropriate width.
Peel off the clear coating, and then carefully remove the nail polish strip from the sticker backing,
Start by placing whichever end on the nail strip that works better for your nails at the cuticle and apply it by smoother the strip towards the tip and your nail, smoothing out and bumps and ensuring the strip is tucked neatly into the sidewalls.
File away any excess nail strip by holding your nail file parallel to the surface you are working on, as filing the nail perpendicularly will cause tearing along the tip.
After you have applied all ten polish strips, take a cotton ball the has been dipped in polish removed with the excess remover wrung out, and swipe each nail 1-3 times, paying special attention to the sidewalls, tips and cuticle area. This step is especially important, as it melts the strip to your nails, allowing for longer lasting wear.
Apply a finishing topcoat, and wait 5 minutes for it to try completely.

So as some of you know I have a hard time with nail strips and unfortunately these were no exception. My nail beds are very curved and the application seems to be more trouble than it’s worth. I have to stretch over the curve or none of them will fit, and when I do that it, it either stretches out the design or when I get to the tip of my nail it’s uneven and has a crease.

I think that for people with relatively flat or much less curved nails as mine may enjoy these strips as there was nothing else wrong with them other than that, they are just not for me.

The strips seemed to last at least the 3-4 days that I had them on for, I showered and washed my hands several times with no problem, even put on cuticle oil with no issues. I even used ‘Seche Vite’ as my topper and as we know that with some of these strips that tends to shrink the strips and they get all gross, these did not. (I do however regularly use Seche Restore so that my Seche does not get thick and shrink my polish.)

Overall, as I said if you have nails that are not as curved as mine and you are in to strips these are a great product.

You will see in this picture and possibly some others, how they stretched a little so at the base of my nail they are a little uneven, etc. Nothing that the average person wouldn’t notice, but I noticed on myself.

Pros:

The strips seemed to last and once applied were not sticky and did not lift at all.
Upon removing the strips they did not damage my nails like some nail strip products.
The price I think is great for this product. They are $6.89 or 4 packs for $20, (10 for $45)
Lots of cute designs

The strips unlike some companies are sticker like strips and once applied kept the strong adhesiveness but again not enough to damage the nails
Top coat can be applied to preserve the look where-as some companies you can not.

Cons:

The strips did leave a slight sticky glue film behind that was easily removed with some nail polish remover.
I feel they do not work for everyone especially those like myself with such curved nail beds.
