NOTD 155 – Cindy

Happy Monday! NOT Mondays have to be the worst day of the week really.. The only good thing about this week is that I am off Wed-Friday this week, bad on that though it’s because my husband is getting his tonsils out!! EEK! They say that is one of the worst things/pains you can experience as an adult so needless to say he is not looking forward to it, neither am I 😦

I have one of the other ‘Shimmer’ girls to introduce to you today, her name is Cindy and she is STUNNING!

*This polish was sent to me for unbiased review.

First, my inspiration for this mani was Alice in Wonderland. This is one of my all time favorite Disney movies. I really wanted to show you guys Cindy next, and I had just gotten this new rose stamp and it hit me, I can paint them white (‘Ulta – Snow White’) and it will be like when they have to paint all of the roses red because they accidentally planted white instead. 🙂

We dare not stop
Or waste a drop
So let the paint be spread

Alright, now on to the beauty. ‘Cindy’ reminds me a bit of ‘Marilyn’, ‘Marilyn’ is a deeper gorgeous red and ‘Cindy’ is a little brighter red glitter.

‘Cindy’ on it’s own is suspended in a somewhat clear, red base. I applied two coats of ‘Cindy’ over ‘Nubar – Lustful Red’

I know I talked a little bit about how Shimmer polishes came to be, but I think that it’s just so awesome that all polishes are named after family and friends that she draws inspiration from.

And most importantly, where you can buy these pretties, on the Etsy website

Alright, well that’s it for me today, I hope to be back Wednesday for one of the other ladies and then of course ‘Featured Color Friday’ but we shall see…

NOTD 137 – Memorial Day

Memorial Day is an US Federal holiday celebrated every year on the last Monday in May. It is a day to honor and remember the men and women who died that have served in the United States Armed Forces. Some people celebrate this day with barbeques and as the unofficial start to summer, but this day is so much more. My husband was in the Army and he served two tours in Iraq, my brother-in-law is in the Marines, and my brother is joining the Army. I am so proud of them and our men and women that serve. Today I will honor all of the fallen.

I am not saying not to enjoy yourselves, not to have a good time, and not to barbecue… just remember why you are able to do it, because all gave some and some gave all to protect this country.

Well guys sorry for all of the seriousness, it’s just important for me to share, not everyone knows and sometimes we forget the importance. In any event, here are my Memorial Day nails. 🙂

Poppies are worn to honor those who have lost their lives so I painted a poppy on my index finger.

Picture 124

I used two coats of “Julep – Glenn” and topped it with “Elevation – Avalanche”. For the poppy I painted two coats of “Ulta – Snow White” then used “Julep – Glenn” to draw the poppy, I outlined it with “Shimmer – Marilyn” and put a black gem in the center.

No matter how you celebrate this Holiday, do it safely. Have a great day today!

NOTD 119 – Featured Color Friday – Marilyn

So I am a big fan of the show SMASH on NBC and it’s about a Broadway show about Marilyn Monroe. Naturally, just looking at this beauty, plus my love for Marilyn herself, and this show, as soon as I saw this gorgeous color, I just had to have it. Today I bring you, “Shimmer’s – Marilyn”

‘Marilyn’ is a pinkish/red toned jelly based polish but more on the red side, with gorgeous red glitters. It looks fine on its own, over red, or black, or I even tried silver, but ended up with the red. I put two coats of ‘Marilyn’ over one thin coat of “China Glaze – Adventure Red-y”

And now, for my new tattoo

IMG_2396

So here is a side story on this…. My husband and I have been married 9 years now and we had discussed getting tattoos with our names on them. I was going to get Jack and Sally and put our names, and he Superman and Louis Lane. So we go to the tattoo shop, all ready to go, so I show the guy the picture I wanted. Problem is, unfortunately not all pictures transfer well over to tattoos. The drawing had too many thin lines and would have just blended over time and you would lose the details, specifically in the clothing and in their stitches. So we nixed that and went to lunch to think on it. He wasn’t 100% sure on his picture just yet either so we decided to just get the names for now and come back when we had good pics we knew we wanted for sure. I picked a Nightmare Before Christmas-ish text and got Don on my wrist and Don drew the heart on me and the guy tatted it in. Don had me sign my signature on his chest and the guy tatted that in.

Here they both are:

Here is the picture I wanted (with some changes) but he said that in order for it not to bleed into each other over time it had to be BIG, so it’s off to find a better Jack and Sally for my next tattoo 🙂
