Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Color Review – NOTD 50

For those of you that read my Influenster Vox Box Post yesterday, you saw that I was a lucky Influenster and got picked to receive the Summer 2012 box. In it, I received some awesome products that I just cannot wait to try, but of course the nail polish came first. I got “Sally Hansen’s Magnetic Nail Color in Graphite Gravity”. I have used Layla’s Magneffect product before so I will be comparing it to that a bit and giving you my honest opinion

*Disclaimer: this product was given to me review however the opinions are solely my own.

As with the other Polish brands that have done the Magnetic lines, it comes in many colors, “Golden Conduct, Polar Purple, Silver Elements, Kinetic Copper, Red-y Response, Ionic Indigo, Electric Emerald, and Graphite Gravity”

I also received one of my stamping plates (Hello Kitty) in the mail, that I had ordered last week from Amazon. So I decided to incorporate that also into this look/post.

So, as I said I have tried the Layla Magneffect nail polish and one of the things I liked about the Sally Hansen one was, that the directions differed. The Sally Hansen one wants you to paint a thin coat of polish on all ten nails (or in my case, 8) and let it dry. Then paint a thicker coat one by one, and hold the cap with the magnetic strip over your finger (there is even a little guide for your finger) for 10 seconds and voila you have your magnetic design.

The formula was thick which was to be expected but certainly not a downer, not hard to work with at all, I didn’t think. I liked that it instructed you paint that thin coat first as with the Layla (unless I did it wrong) when you held the magnet cap over the polish, it tended to pull the polish so much to make the design that it looked like you didn’t have polish on in some spots. With the Sally Hansen one I did not have that at all. 😀

Another pleasant surprise was, that the bottle was like a darkish silver color, I thought that when I held the magnet that the design would be white, I was pleased to see that it actually turned black and pulled the silver to make the design. I liked the polish much better that way. There is another color however that looks like it is silver with the whitish design if that is more your style.

I would for sure, purchase this in other colors, especially for the price, it was a great product, was easy to work with, so long as you don’t accidentally hold the magnet too close that it hits the strip and you get a chip. :/ but that is with any polish or magnetic polish.

I painted “Sonia Kashuk’s – Dream of Genie” on my ring fingers for accent. I used “Sinful Colors Blackest Black” for the Hello Kitty Nail Stamp.

31 Day Nail Challenge – Day 26 – Pattern

I was so excited to try out my new stamps, I bought the pack of 25 Nail Stamping MASH plates on Amazon a few weeks ago and the last few challenges just did not call for them. I busted them out last night and I could not get them to work. It could be that I bought a cheap Stamper with a plastic scraper, in any event, I used it a few days again and same, no such luck. I purchased the “real” Konad Stamper and it arrived today, of course it did, just after I spent so much manual time on this look. Anyway, Cannot wait to try them and I just hope that the issue was the stamper, and not the plates.

I have enjoyed participating in the 31 Day Nail Challenge, I am sad to say it’s all coming to an end shortly, I am already on day 26,  Inspired by a pattern; because I had so much difficulty, you will see below the hard work I had to put into this look, I suppose I could have “cheated” and used my Sally Hanson Strips but I also just got in my Nail Tapes in that I wanted to try as well 😀

I used two Coats of “Elevation Polish – Avalanche” after my “nail-aid Peeling Nail base coat”, once the tape was on in the desired spot, I painted two coats of “Sonia Kashuk- 30 Dream of Genie”. As soon as I painted the first coat, not a minute later I painted the second, and then slowly took the tape off one by one. I then topped it off with “Seche Vite’ ” for quick dry, and off to the next nail 😀

Day 18 – Half Moons – 31Challenge

So… queue 4AM, Saturday morning.  My husband and I are dead asleep in our quiet house (…not a creature was stirring not even a mouse… 🙂 )  When all of the sudden…     BOOM!!!

We had no idea what had happened (well my husband didn’t I was dead asleep still… I sleep through everything! 🙂 )  We (he) frantically looked around the house to try to find what had happened.

Come to find out my cherished nail polish collection had come crashing down in the closet I keep it! It slammed into the doors of the closet, dropping all of my nail polish to the floor in the process in one massive crash!

When I finally heard what had happened I admit I panicced. I rushed to the scene of the accident to survey and assess the damages….

Luckily, they make nail polish bottles like fisher price trucks! I hadn’t lost a single one!!! I was soooo relieved. Whew!

(Note to self: secure nail polish rack to wall next time…)

Anyway, On to Day 18 of the challenge:

Here is a look at the polishes that I chose for my Half-Moons look. “Sonia Kashuk – Dream of Genie” and “Essie – Aruba Blue” I also used my “Nail Aid – Peeling Nail, Intense Repair Gel” I will keep everyone posted on my progress with that, so far only the one application, so far so good.

I painted the Pink first on all nails the night before. Once fully dry, in the morning, I used those binder hole stickers and painted the rest of my nail with the blue.

Here’s the final look:

I have to say that I absolutely LOVE this blue, I love its depth and shimmer!
